Part-time Project Coordinator, Harassment Prevention Training and Inclusive Fieldwork

POSITION SUMMARY: FieldFutures, a new startup that aims to train field scientists to prevent, intervene in, and report sexual harassment and assault in field settings, is hiring! We are looking for a passionate, organized, and entrepreneurial person to help support the growth of a startup focused on building equitable, safer, and more inclusive scientific fieldwork settings. This is currently a part-time contractor position, though there may be opportunities for growth as the organization expands. This is a remote position with likelihood for travel mainly within the U.S.

The ideal candidate is a service-oriented leader with a passion for equity, inclusion, and harassment prevention in field science, conservation, and research settings. Experience working in a dynamic, independent startup environment is preferred. We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills, and commitment to increasing safety and equity in field sciences.

Primary responsibilities include: '

  1. Manage correspondence with clients interested in scheduling trainings

  2. Schedule and facilitate FieldFutures trainings

  3. Maintain online website and social media presence

  4. Build marketing content to grow reach of program

  5. Communicate effectively with multiple diverse clients, participants, and Certified Instructors

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree

  2. Outstanding organizational skills

  3. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills

  4. Communicate effectively at all levels

  5. Ability to manage multiple different projects simultaneously

  6. Experience in scientific fieldwork in academic, agency, non-profit or other related setting

  7. Passion for increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM

  8. Interest in growing a movement toward more equitable field science

Expected Hours per week: 10-15

Compensation: $26-28 USD per hour, depending on experience

About FieldFutures

Fieldwork is both an important component of many scientific disciplines, and a high-risk setting for sexual harassment and assault. FieldFutures (www.fieldfutures.org) scales the Building a Better Fieldwork Future Program at UC Santa Cruz to serve wide-ranging academic, government, and non-profit clients engaged in field science. The 90-minute FieldFutures workshop identifies unique risks posed by fieldwork and offers a suite of evidence-based tools for field researchers, instructors, and students to prevent, intervene in, and respond to sexual harassment and assault. FieldFutures offers live, interactive trainings and tailored Certified Instructor programs to build safer, more equitable and welcoming science field settings.
